Tweeter Cover Painting
by gonzo777 (Difficulty: variable - results based on your painting skills)
Tools & Materials
Flat Black Spray Paint
Metallic Silver (or whatever color you want) Spray Paint
Clear Coat Spray (optional)
Paper
Tape
Light Sandpaper
The Project:
1. Take the tweeters off the door. You can use somethin like a butter knife. The tabs are in a Y layout. BE CAREFUL not to goige up anything - it's easy tot do!
2. Prep the surface by cleaning with soap and water. Allow to dry and scuff with light sandpaper.
3. For best results, run some HOT water in the sink and put your paint cans in to allow them to warm up. You'll get better mixing and flow this way.
4. While the paint is warming, insert strips of paper into the grooves around the tweeter "mesh" and tape the overlap to make a tube. Take your time and make a good tube.
5. Spray a light coat of black and let sit for a few minutes. Follow with painting the covers all black.
6. When the black has dried, fit the tubes you made on the tweeters and paint he outer edge silver. IMHO If you spray down into the slot where the paper is you'll get a better finished result, as the silver will be in the groove.
7. When done, carefully remove the tubes and allow to dry.
8. Spray the clear coat (optional) and allow to dry for a day or so - you want the paint to be decently cured when you go to install because you'll be pushing on them a lot to get them back in.
9. Reinstall. (You'll notice that I also painted my door handle surrounds. Removal is one screw. I then masked off the inside to leave it the original color and only painted and clear coated the outer edge.)
